The morning started superbly with a day like the best of a
British summer. Tim was supping a cup of coffee on the veranda by the time Ruth
was awake at 9.30 am.
Steinhatchee River looked wonderful this morning, as we left
our motel by the riverside and drove round the area before leaving for Orlando.
Our aim was not to actually get to Orlando today, but to
take a leisurely drive towards it. We
decided we would stop overnight somewhere near where the I-75 meets the Florida
Turnpike. That particular area was not
all that great so we headed towards Oxford, FL.
Stopping off at Walmart for a few late minute bits before
leaving the USA, we enquired of a friendly passer-by where we might find some
overnight accommodation.
She turned out to be English and from Salisbury,
Wiltshire. She directed us to Spanish
Springs, - an out of town area where would find plenty of choice.
“Pop into town” she said with a smile. “There will be music and dancing in the
square.”
As we headed for the car we noticed several unusual golf
buggies coming to park!
Driving on to Spanish Springs was a complete
revelation!
Do you remember that we blogged about the Amish traveling in the horse and traps, one after the other, to an event?

Well, this was very similar, except for one difference. The horse and traps had been replaced by, ….
Yes, You’ve guessed it!
Golfing buggies.
We thought we had seen a lot on campsites and generally in
the USA. But this took that whole
subject to a new level!
This was golf-buggy city!
It seemed like a cross between a modern day version of the
Flintstones, and the Amish!
We then accidently came across Spanish Springs square.

Sure enough, it had a very Spanish feel to it. There were bars, shops, restaurants, the lot,
in a mock Spanish style. The colours of
the buildings, the architecture, - everything had a Spanish flavour to it.
Sure enough, there were dancers in the square, dancing to
the sound of live singing (to a backing track).

Enter stage left, Tim and Ruth.
Enter stage right, golfing buggies in vast quantities and
various shapes. Driven by people of vast
quantities and various shapes. All
tooting and hooting, decorated up, and waving flags.
This was the epicentre of the Donald Trump campaign! Either that, or this was golf club
heaven. Either way, we had arrived in
time for the party. Music on the
bandstand, dancers in the square, accompanied by the convoy of golf buggies.
We can only imagine that all these dear people have aimed throughout
their lives to live in such a place, and own a golf buggy of this caliber in a
town that was sign-posted a “Golf Buggy town”!
There were even special lanes for golf buggies, and their very own
filling station for whatever fuel they use.
The whole point of the motorcade was in fact, to promote and
support USA Presidential nominee, Donald Trump.
Tim even managed to halt the procession in order to shake
Donald’s hand!
The conclusion we came to was that they are all totally
bonkers!
Secretly, I think Tim's a little jealous of those that have buggies, or is it that he wants to run for vice president?
