| Enough said! |
After the excitement of Sunday, we decided to move on, from Stonebridge RV park, Maggie Valley, on Monday morning.
Hot yet again.
We are getting good at packing up. When I say "we", I really mean that Ruth does most of the packing up. She's so good at it.
I get the rough jobs like unhooking the electricity supply, the water supply, and the waste water supply. Yes, I know what you're thinking,... - Tim gets the rotten jobs as always. Always the martyr.
We were done in a few minutes and on the road.
We were heading for Asheville and the Billy Graham Training Center, called "The Cove".
We didn't make it on Monday, because we got distracted by trying to visit the Asheville Arboretum. I like arboretums (a tree place). There is one called Bedgebury Forest near where we live. It's beautiful. A visit to one here would be lovely.
The drive into the arboretum was pleasant, and we stopped at the gatehouse. He wanted 50 bucks for us to take Harvey in there! 50 dollars? Just to park Harvey for a couple of hours. No way! That is a bit over the top.
So we abandoned the plan of an arboretum visit, and left the place.
Having just passed a sign for a forest camping site, we retraced our route to the campsite. It was nestled in forest and woodland.
Bear country!
Great!
But not for my dear wife! The campsite people warnings about bears were on every notice board. No feeding them. Make a lot of noise (easy for Ruth). Look out for bear scratching on trees. Look out for bear droppings (anyone know what they look like?). Etc. etc.
She was so worried that she wouldn't sit outside Harvey and was scared to sleep at night without a fire burning in the fire pit outside. She had to have music playing to scare the bears away, and slept with a sharp stick next to the bed.
| Beach area at Powhatan Lake. |
Powhatan Lake was picture postcard beautiful. So very tranquil, as we cycled our way round the lake to find a beach area.
Sadly, we spent an uneventful night there!
The best we could find of wildlife was a birds and a chipmunk.
