Onwards and upwards

The journey north today has taken us through Virginia, West Virginia, and now Maryland. It has been a wonderful journey as we have kept off the main interstate highways (motorways).
Lovely rolling hills, beautiful blue skies, small houses with rocking chairs on the verandas, and picturesque towns. We have loved it.
We are now in Hancock, Maryland.
Here are a few pictures from the last couple of days.

We took the bikes down to the Potomac River, through rugged terrain.  Got a bit scary for the wife, but we persevered, until we reached the river.  I'm not sure what was scary for her, - the steepness of terrain, or the remotest possibility that we might have happened to come across a bear, or a snake!
As we looked across the river, we heard a train approaching.  A hooter type of whistle, and soon enough it appeared on the opposite bank.
It was a goods train (freight), and I counted 113 carriages!  All going very slowly.

A cute little shop in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia (briefly).
